Japanese studies, Leipzig University (Germany) organizes a series of lectures under the project “Japan’s Split Society Between Genbaku and Genpatsu: Media, Propaganda and Science“.

Here are excerpts from the project summary;

In this online lecture series we want to examine the connectedness and differences of how “nuclear energy“ (genpatsu) and the “atomic bomb(s)“ (genbaku) were made (in)visible. We want to explore both fields and have a closer look on different types of media and will try to learn more about of how the „atomic issue“ was made (in)visible using different approaches and methods.

Here in Leipzig we have had very good experiences with having the presentation in that language t teh speakers feel most familiar with and have the PPT in a different language – we call this the “Leipzig model of interpretation”. This means, that the lectures can be conducted in English OR Japanese.

However, we will provide the PPT in English or Japanese and will translate questions or comments from English to Japanese and vice versa.
