Call for Contributions

The European Japan Experts Association (EJEA) invites scholars, practitioners, policymakers, business representatives, innovators, and civil-society actors from Japan and Europe to contribute to its International Conference 2026, taking place at the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JDZB).

The conference provides a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue on how Japan and Europe address major societal, technological, and value-driven transformations. We welcome contributions that foster mutual learning, comparative perspectives, and practical insights under the guiding principle “Think Global, Act Local.”

We welcome abstract submissions for the following types of contributions:

Oral Contributions (Impulse Presentations / Statements)

We invite proposals for short oral contributions (approx. 10 minutes) to be presented within workshops.

Oral contributions may include:

  • Research insights and work-in-progress
  • Policy perspectives and governance approaches
  • Case studies, best practices, and applied solutions
  • Presentation from industry representatives and civil society
  • Pitch presentations from startups, spin-offs and accelerators
  • Comparative or interdisciplinary viewpoints

Contributions are expected to stimulate discussion rather than provide full-length academic papers.

Workshop Proposals and Workshop Leaders

We also invite proposals from individuals or small teams willing to organize and moderate a workshop (90–120 minutes).

Workshop leaders are encouraged to:

  • Propose a clear thematic focus and discussion format
  • Combine short inputs with interactive elements (discussion, group work, dialogue formats)
  • Actively involve participants from different sectors and regions

Workshops may align with the six main conference sessions or address additional emerging topics relevant to Japan–Europe cooperation.

Contributions and workshops are particularly welcome in relation to the following sessions:

  1. Revitalizing Democracies – Trust, Transparency and Participation
  2. Human-Centered Innovation and Goals for the Future of Work
  3. Empowerment, Inclusion, and Equal Opportunities
  4. Sustainable and Resilient Futures – Local Roots, Global Impact
  5. Excellence in Science and Open Innovation – Building Bridges for Shared Futures
  6. Future of EJEA and Local as well as Interregional Networks

Proposals beyond these themes are welcome if they clearly relate to the conference title and objectives.

The conference addresses participants from:

  • Universities and research organizations
  • Public administration and policy institutions
  • Civil-society organizations and NGOs
  • Industry, startups, and innovation ecosystems
  • Think tanks and independent experts
  • Early-career researchers, doctoral candidates, and students

Interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral contributions are especially encouraged.
