As Japan’s Association to Horizon Europe is about to be signed, collaboration between EU ad Japan’s research communities both from private and public sector is already possible. With this presentation you will learn more about these opportunities, how they fit in the broader context of EU-Japan R&I cooperation and what we can expect in the coming years.
Emmanuelle Chauvin is Policy Officer since 2024 in the International Cooperation unit of DG Research & Innovation responsible for Asia, Pacific, Africa and the Middle East since 2024. She oversees the cooperation on STI with the Republic of Korea, and with Japan. She is also responsible for the European Research Area standing subgroup on the Global Approach to Research and Innovation.
Emmanuelle has been working for the European Commission since 2012 and contributed as an assistant to the work of Deputy Directors General and the former Director-General before joining the international unit five years ago.

Fumiko Oda
National Contact Point – Coordinator, EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation
As cooperation between Europe and Japan continues to expand in research and innovation, understanding Horizon Europe has become increasingly important for both academia and industry. This presentation will give a brief introduction to the programme structure and explain the participation opportunities available for Japanese organizations. Participants will gain practical insights into how to engage with European partners, funding opportunities, and current trends in EU-Japan cooperation.
Fumiko Oda is the National Contact Point for Horizon Europe in the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, Tokyo Japan. With 8 years of experience in the field of international research collaboration, she has been instrumental in promoting participation of Japanese institutions to European research programs. Fumiko previously contributed to the JEUPISTE project under the FP7 programme and served as the helpdesk coordinator for the Horizon 2020 NCP team.

The European Japan Experts Association (EJEA) is launching this webinar series as a further development of its activities, creating a continuous platform for dialogue between Europe and Japan.
The webinar series addresses key challenges and opportunities that are of shared relevance to both regions. It brings together perspectives from academia, business, and public administration and aims to foster exchange, mutual learning, and the development of new cooperation initiatives.
Under the title “Think Global, Act Local: Japan–Europe Dialogues on Transformation in Society, Technology, and Values,” the webinar series will cover the following thematic areas:

With this new format, EJEA aims to reach a broader and more diverse audience while strengthening its role as a European network for expertise on Japan. The series will provide regular opportunities for engagement and exchange across disciplines and sectors.
