The European Commission has published the current Draft of the ICT Workprogram 2018-2020, October 2017

The three-year work programme is planned to be published by the end of 2017. The preparations will consist of a strategic programming process in 2016 and writing of the Work Programme in 2017. Consultation of stakeholders will be an integral part of this process. Further information

Conference “Research & Innovation – shaping our future”, 3 July 2017 in Brussels

The conferenceResearch & Innovation – shaping our future“, hosted by Research, Science and Innovation Commissioner Carlos Moedas in Brussels on 3 July 2017, will bring together policymakers from EU institutions, nearly 700 stakeholders and interested actors to discuss the role of research and innovation for Europe’s future.
Pascal Lamy, chair of the High Level Group on maximising the impact of European research and innovation programmes, will present the group’s vision and recommendations for the future, based on the results of the interim evaluation of Horizon 2020. The conference will build further momentum for research and innovation as an investment for our future by:

  • Discussing the recommendations of the High Level Group;
  • Debating game-changing ideas in an interactive panel format;
  • Launching the stakeholder consultation for the successor framework programme.

7th Job Openings for Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Positions through the HIRAKU Consortium, Japan (Statistics / Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) / Hiroshima University)

Hiroshima University, Yamaguchi University, and Tokushima University have jointly established a consortium called “Home for Innovative Researchers and Academic Knowledge Users (HIRAKU).” The consortium focuses on human resource development and the allocation of young researchers and graduate students in cooperation with firms, universities, and institutes in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions.
Supported by Funds for the Development of Human Resources in Science and Technology through Japan’s Ministry of  Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the consortium aims to improve regional potential in science, technology, and innovation. As a main part of its activities, the member organizations of the Consortium has launched a joint call for applications for tenure-track researcher’s positions from promising young researchers within and outside Japan in order to promote in these regions them and encourage them to become distinguished researchers. For these purposes, the ideal candidate for the position will be required to conduct active independent research in the specified research fields as a tenure-track assistant professor at each university, collaborate with diverse actors, contribute to the Consortium, and develop research careers in an uncertain world.

EU Graphene Flagship – Japan Workshop, May 6-8, 2017 in Barcelona

The workshop will highlight recent research advances in 2D-materials materials and heterostructures achieved in the Graphene Flagship and Japan. Researchers from the EU Flaghship project and Japan will also be focusing on material production and device fabrication, and exploration of electronic, photonics, and spintronics in novel structures.

This workshop is a follow up to the Japan-EU Workshop held in Tokyo, Japan from 31 October – 2 November, 2015.
