March 19, 2021: Call for participants from Japan in online focus group interview, March 22 & 23, both at 17:00 (Japan Time).

The Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility of De Montfort University, UK, is conducting an international focus group study on the future possibilities and implications of artificial intelligence around the world. They will hold online focus group with participants from Japan in the next week; and are currently inviting participants. (Please see below)

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Artificial Intelligence Global Governance Group (AI-GGG) of the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility of De Montfort University in the UK, I would like to invite you to take part in an international online focus group study. The study explores the views on the possibilities, concerns, risks and possible consequences of the use of AI in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and South America. (For more information on the study – please see here).

The study aims to:

  • contribute to academic and policy debates on the regional and shared global challenges to the governance of AI technologies
  • generate comparative insights into the ways in which AI is discussed, governed and used around the world
  • explore the impact of global differences in wealth, culture, political systems and scientific capacities

To achieve these aims, we will hold online focus group interviews with participants from Japan on March 22, 2021, at 17:00 (Japan Time) and March 23, 2021, at 17:00 (Japan Time).

Benefits and sharing of research findings:
The study will provide novel insights into the key challenges and possibilities of AI in four world regions, including an understanding of shared global challenges and ways to address these. We will share the publications and a final report with you at the end of the project, which may provide information that is relevant to your organization and contribute to debates on the responsible use of AI technologies in Japan and globally. We also offer possibilities for collaboration and knowledge exchange in future research projects and grant applications.
